HI 8713, also known as Pusa Mangal, is a high-yielding durum wheat variety bred for central India’s timely sowing and irrigated conditions. It offers strong adaptability, durable rust resistance, and superior grain quality, making it desirable for farmers and industries alike.
Key Characteristics
- Yield: Good yield potential, average around 52–57 quintals per hectare in trials.
- Maturity: ~120–125 days from sowing.
- Adaptability: Performs well under timely sown, irrigated conditions across Central Zone states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan (Kota/Udaipur).
- Grain Quality: Hard, durum wheat grain with high yellow pigment (~7.16 ppm) and good micronutrient content (protein ~12%, iron, zinc). Suitable for pasta and durum products.
- Disease Resistance: High level of resistance to leaf and stem rust, and good performance against other diseases in trials.
